Athens, Saturday January 18th, 2020

On Tuesday January 14th, 2020 and upon the invitation of Professor Meletios-Athanasios Dimopoulos, Rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Manuscripts Digital Research and Study Laboratory of the Department of Social Theology and the Study of Religion, joined the University of Athens Center of Excellence: Digital Heritage.

As it is officially stated, "the Senate of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, following the proposal of the Rector, Professor Meletios-Athanasios Dimopoulos, has decided the establishment of Centers of Excellence at the N.K.U.A. in interdisciplinary fields, in which the University either has an innovative activity or wants to develop, in the framework of its Strategic Development Plan (2019-2028). With this decision, the N.K.U.A. provides for the conditions of excellence in all scientific fields, an essential investment for the future of our Institution. A scientific Committee for each Center was appointed by the Senate of the N.K.U.A. to coordinate the development of each Center. The Committee’s goal is to draw up a proposal for the development, management and operation of each Center.  For this reason, the Committee will cooperate with all faculty members who are interested in participating in the project and are active regarding the Center’s scope. These Centers may be developed as a Research University Institute or be integrated as its units. Aiming at the intensive development of the Centers of Excellence, the Senate has already decided to allocate funds from cash flows preserved by the Special Account for Research Grants to be used for the supply of research equipment available to all University academic units. Our University, the first Institution of Higher Education in Greece, enters the new decade with great confidence and optimism for the country and Higher Education, as the Greek Public University can be a key pillar of the State and contribute to the development of the county with its infrastructure and scientific work."
